Around the world, governments are starting to put global emissions targets into place, in a race to fight climate change by limiting the amount of greenhouse gasses. These harmful emissions warm the planet, and cause the heatwaves and flash flooding that are sadly becoming more and more frequent.

The transport sector is responsible for a huge amount of global emissions, and so it’s one of the biggest areas that we can tackle in order to make a change. Most people are likely to be resistant to the idea of swapping their car for a bike, but e-bikes can offer a great solution. Having the extra push of the battery suddenly makes cycling a more viable option, especially if people are looking to commute to work and don’t want to turn up to the office looking sweaty.

This guide outlines the benefits of e-bikes for decarbonising transport, providing a well-rounded dive into the manufacturing carbon footprint of e-bikes in comparison to cars, as well as their impact on the environment once they’re on the road. For example, it reports that manufacturing an e-bike uses around 134kg of carbon, in comparison to the 5.5 tonnes required for a small hatchback.

Even a small change helps, and this guide aims to provide you with information and solutions to make transport more sustainable in your own life.
